I was forced to examine my army choices and there are many I want to do, but not a one jumps out and says "PICK ME!" In fact I have struggled in this arena for a number of year. but in short order here are the choices I had in front of me:
- Sisters of Battle: By far my favorite choice, I love the imagery (Chicks in Power Armor is awesome), I love the background (everyone should read the 2nd edition codex, makes the Vandire situation so much worse). I used to love the way they played. I hate the cost. An all metal army is extremely cost prohibitive, and GW is creating a self full filling prophesy here. "SoB are too expensive so no one fields them, GW won't make them in plastic because they don't sell." And the White Dwarf codex was un-needed, and made them worse not better, at least in my opinion.
- Space Marines: I love the story of Raven Guard. I love the idea of the way they fight, but I'm not sold it really works in the current codex. Everyone plays Space Marines. And in the end this is the thing that drives me away, there are too many SM players already.
- Eldar: What can I say I love elves... er I mean Eldar. In Fantasy my first army was High Elves. I love the idea of Wraith Guard and Wraith Lords, but again cost becomes an issue here. And like I said earlier, I already play elves, so I want something different.
Given my top 3 choices had issues, I re-examined the armies, and I saw something that made me kind of giddy.
Daemons of Chaos.
I know that most people think they can't be competitive and are under powered. But that actually appeals to me, finding a way to make them work when others can't. I relish that challenge. I also look at the modeling and painting opportunities and see where I can push myself as both. That personal challenge is appealing as well.
So I decided to make a blog about this endeavor. I will be posting my thoughts on units, painting, modeling, competitive play, and anything else 40k that makes me want to write. As well as kepping a log of how my army takes shape. I'm going to see about getting a game in on wed, using proxies for almost everything.
Oh, and in case the name of the blog didn't give it away, the only definitive choice I have made thus far is a Keeper of Secrets will be in the list. What can I say, I love Slaanesh!
